Contest: Win a Bottle of Cambodian Scorpion Wine!

While wandering around Phnom Penh, I found this lovely bottle of wine for sale.
It’s about 4 inches tall, includes a huge scorpion and ginseng (for extra power!), and has to be absolutely disgusting.

The rules are simple: leave a comment here and on May 2, I will randomly pick the lucky winner and ship you this prize direct from Cambodia. If you’re a fan of my Facebook page, you can leave a comment there as well and double your odds. Makes a great gift!

argh! As I was on the bus, leaving Sihanoukville, I saw my first Golden Muscle Wine billboard. I’ll be back in Cambodia in a couple of weeks so the quest will continue…

“No Nation is drunken where wine is cheap; and none sober, where the dearness of wine substitutes ardent spirits as the common beverage. It is, in truth, the only antidote to the bane of whiskey.”
Thomas Jefferson quotes (American 3rd US President (1801-09). Author of the Declaration of Independence. 1762-1826)

General south-east asian wisdom states that the worst a drink taste the better it is for you. A drink that dangerous looking MUST be good for you. If I won it I would definitely try it, might make me more…scorpion-y(?).

Do not forget that he led you through the great and terrifying wilderness with its poisonous snakes and scorpions, where it was so hot and dry. He gave you water from the rock!

Hi, can you tell me if it is the same Snake Wine ?
http://www.buy-snake-wine.com/

And do you know where to buy bottles with spiders or other animals/insects ?

Thanks for help.

Hi Kay,

That looks like the same stuff — similar bottles and the yellow seal on top. Are you going to drink some?

Reply

daniel January 6, 2011 at 4:03 pm

can u drink it?

Reply

wes January 6, 2011 at 4:32 pm

If you’re brave enough! It’s a liquor of some sort — not really wine (Cambodians consider wine and hard liquor to be the same thing).
