Ten Hot Travel Blogs to Watch in 2011

Wow, there are a lot of good travel blogs out there. Here are ten blogs, both new and old, that I keep up with no matter how dodgy my wifi connection may be.

Ten Hot Travel Blogs for 2011Backpacking Matt
Matt is all about traveling on a budget, saving money whenever possible with the hopes of traveling longer and farther. His blog is full of good advice, like this post on backpacking in Thailand.
Ten Hot Travel Blogs for 2011Bangkok Reality Smackdown
Megan is damned funny. Her witty observations of living in Bangkok are almost enough to make me want to move there. Almost. Be sure to check out her post on crazy Thai beauty products (full disclosure: I’ve actually found the nipple-cream to work very well).

Ten Hot Travel Blogs for 2011A Dangerous Business
Amanda has let herself be swept away in travel and has kindly invited us along for the ride. I really enjoyed her how-to photo essay on climbing (and surviving) the Great Wall of China.
Ten Hot Travel Blogs for 2011Canvas of Light
Daniel produces some seriously drool-worthy travel photographs from all over the world — he makes me want to just put my camera away and call it quits. Head on over and give his a site a look. Pack a lunch — you’ll be there awhile.
Ten Hot Travel Blogs for 2011Go See Write
Not only has Michael circled the globe without flying, he’s now in Central America and entertaining us with great writing and cool interviews with other travelers. He hasn’t got around to interviewing me yet, but swears I’m in line right behind Nomadic Matt’s house-keeper. I’m waiting, dude…
Ten Hot Travel Blogs for 2011Got Passport
Not only do “A”, “M”, and “Bubba” produce a thoughtful and inspiring blog on traveling as a family in SE Asia, they have cool code names! How awesome is that? Their blog shares their experiences with volunteering around the world and living life to the fullest — these are good people doing good work and their positive vibe is infectious. I mean that in a good way.
Ten Hot Travel Blogs for 2011Phil In the Blank
Phil has managed to produce a travel blog that is both seriously funny and socially-aware. He does have a rather odd fascination with camels, but hey… we all have our little eccentricities, right? He and I have agreed to disagree on this point — we’ll work it out.
Ten Hot Travel Blogs for 2011OverYonderLust
Shaun and Erica are cool cats. Not only are they from my home town of Austin, they’ve managed to produce a sharp, spunky blog full of useful tips and great photos. Be sure to check out their post on saving money on travel shots before you head out.
Ten Hot Travel Blogs for 2011Travels With a Nine Year Old
Theodora is a single mom traveling the world with her now-ten-year-old son, Z. She says the purpose of the trip is for them to spend focused time together while exploring the world, but I suspect they’re actually searching for the missing letters from Z’s name. Regardless, Theodora is a hell of a writer and her stories never fail to entertain. Recommended!
Ten Hot Travel Blogs for 2011Vagabond Journey
Wade is the Man. He’s been traveling for 11 years now and has visited over 47 countries, all while maintaining a blog that is practically a how-to encyclopedia for independent travel. Now traveling with his wife, Chaya, and baby girl, Petra, Wade shows no signs of slowing down. Respect.

Johnny Vagabond,

This is truly an honor. This is the sort of thing that makes weeding through a pile of “you’re a jerk” or “awww! you misspelled a word, I’m telling!” comments more than worth it haha. Truly needed this to keep the gears a cranking today. Put a smile on my face. Thank you.

In fellow vagabondship,
