This was about the last thing I expected to see while wandering along the river in Varanasi. There is a large flat platform at the Dasaswamedh Ghat where several young men had gathered just after dawn and were taking advantage of the lack of crowds. When they saw my camera, they started pulling tricks and hamming it up.

Great photo and an interesting experience of what goes on when the crowds aren’t there. However, a video of the tricks would have been great to see! :)
Video would have been cool. My camera has a video function but I’ve had lousy luck with it so far. Also, uploading a decent-quality vid from India can be a challenge…
Holy Rollerskates!
Love the movement, nice shot Wes.
Thanks! Lucky catch. Shot about two dozen and this was the only keeper.
Excellent shot Wes. You’ve got the pan down pat if it only took you a couple dozen. I don’t think I’ve ever shot a good pan.
Thanks, man. Panning is still always a roll of the dice. I get lucky occasionally but not often..
Such a cool photo!
Thanks, Ryan. It was quite a surprise. Great kids, too — they stopped and chatted for a bit.
When I was teaching English in Saigon one of the ways we would relieve the boredom of a hot afternoon was roller skating. The local roller rink was a sweaty, anarchistic den of good times and disco lights.
that sounds like a great time :)
Wow! That’s a really nice shot. But yeah, I must agree with the others that a video shot would’ve been great to share. It will give us the idea how impressive those tricks are. Nevertheless, you still have a great picture to tell us how it really went. Nice.
