Champasak may be my favorite town in all of Laos. It’s a quiet one-road town that hugs the Mekong River and is wonderfully devoid of tourists in the slow season. In the mornings, the street is lined with locals who gather to give alms to the monks from several colorful, ornate wats in town. Unlike Luang Prabang, there are no tour buses full of people crowding around to witness the event — I had it all to myself.

Wow it would be really wonderful just to witness that, let alone capture it in a photo.

It was a great experience. I only took a few shots, as I felt like a rube tourist doing it. This one isn’t for show, as in Luang Prabang.
Champasak was my favorite town in Laos as well. Nice to see this shot is from there instead of Luang Prabang.

yup, we really dug Champasak as well, did a homestay across the river on Don Daeng, very hospitable host family and got an evening visit from the village head, not much English spoken but we all managed to have a conversation of sorts with much laughter. The island kids were adorable. Rode bikes out to Wat Phu, stayed several hrs soaking up the lush cliffside setting. Where did you bunk?
