Travel Photo of the Week: Buddha and Roots in Ayutthaya, Thailand

Said to be the most-photographed object in Thailand, this sculpture can be found amongst the ruins of the ancient capital of Ayutthaya. Ruined temples and towers are scattered all over the center of the city and are best visited by bicycle. Though it can be done as a day trip from Bangkok, I recommend staying to night so you can visit the ruins at sunset and sunrise.

Great Shot, we loved both Ayutthaya and Sukhothai the old capitals of Thailand. If you haven’t been to Sukhothai yet, it’s definitely worth a visit. You can see some of our pics. here: http://www.livingif.com/oldies-but-goodies/

Great post about one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites in the world, the old city and the Ayutthaya Hisoric park. Very fortunate that in 1767 the Burmese army did not destroy everything when it went through this region. You are right, there are amazing sites and historic ruins to see, a contrast to the modern city of Ayutthaya located not far. Interesting to visit also is the Ayutthaya Elephant Camp. Your photograph conveys so well the beauty and mystery this area offers visitors, thank you for sharing.

Really a nice one – if you don’t want to miss it you go to Wat Mahathat วัดมหาธาตุ พระนครศรีอยุธยา. And I agree: You should stay in Ayutthaya at least for one night. There are excellent restaurants along the river. And some ruins are floodlit at night. And there is more to discover (Google Map included): Treasures of Ayutthaya

I love the dominance of nature in this shot. Reminds me of Ozymandias poem by P. B. Shelley. I wouldn’t mind seeing a the darks pushed a bit darker to draw out the detail and earth-worn textures.
I just downloaded Lightroom 3 trail and hoping it changes my life. Having some troubles switching from my old Adobe Bridge PS workflow though.
Hope you’re doing well ^_^
