Photo of the Week: Morning Light on Laguna Coba, Mexico

Photo of the Week: Morning Light on Laguna Coba, Mexico

While waiting for the Coba Mayan Archaeological Site to open, I wandered around the nearby lagoon. It’s very peaceful in the morning and I only had to share it with a couple of herons and what I think was a crocodile peering at me from the water.

  1. Nice shoot. Pretty nice place. How was the temperature and how long did you stay and enjoy this view?

  2. Gorgeous.

  3. Just started reading your blog…some great stories and amazing photos! I just returned from 3 weeks in Thailand and I am going through the post holiday blues…did a search on 40 something’s backpacking and your blog appeared. Anyhow, thanks for your stories and sharing these experiences! Little confused though, as a newbie, wondering how the year of travel turned into almost two? Couldn’t find the post where you shared that information…

    • Thanks for the kudos — much appreciated :)

I had enough budget to travel for a year but hoped to stretch it further if possible. I also hoped to get the blog to a point where it would help pay for travel. About 6 months into the trip I decided this was what I wanted to do as a lifestyle, so I’ve just kept going. A little bit of freelance work (I’m a graphic designer) and income from the blog makes it possible (though just barely).

  4. OK…yes, did a little more digging after I sent this message and found that post. Well, you are definately living the dream…I think. There is definately a part of me that is envious but I know that it isn’t all sunsets and surf. Traveling can be stressful (any visa nightmares?) and lonely at times, I think. I have never travelled alone and being a woman, I guess I have been tentative about it. It is probably my only option at this stage in my life, though. No significant other and no kids allows me the freedom to do as I choose but it is still a scary thought. Wondering what an average day is like for a vagabond? Something crazy can’t happen every day, can it?

    • I wouldn’t worry too much about traveling solo as a woman. I have many friends who do it. And if you’re seeking company, it’s usually very easy to find someone to travel with for periods of time.

And, no, it isn’t crazy all the time. Thank God :) its really as crazy as you want to make it. When I feel like I’m burning out or losing the desire to see something new, I find a nice place and settle down for awhile. Sometimes you need to sleep in the same bed for a month or two to recharge.
