The Love Castle: NSFW Photos from a Korean Sex Museum

If you ever find yourself in the popular tourist town of Gyeongju, be sure to check out the Sex Museum. It’s chock full of historical exhibits, phalluses of every size, and sculptures that run the gamut from outrageous kitsch to the downright bizarre.

Greeted at the entrance by a cartoon penis named Cocksey and staring at a sign that featured Wonder Woman with a chicken’s head, I found myself thinking “This is gonna be a weird ride”. And I was right.

Stepping inside, we were treated to displays of pottery from different cultures featuring people having sex or men sporting outrageously large erections. Stone and wooden dildos sat in cases with descriptions, much like you’d find in any museum. The next room was full of colorful cartoon-like dioramas with scenes of men in raincoats exposing themselves to shocked women, schoolkids using a mirror on their shoes to look up the teacher’s dress and men picking up prostitutes in a bar.

Moving back outside, things got more interesting: giant fiberglass phalluses stood proudly in the baking sun and plastic sculptures of naked women or couples having sex were sprinkled throughout the grounds.

Paintings of people, animals and even insects having sex lined the fence, covered in Korean script that I’d given anything to have been able to read. Every stick, post or knob in sight had been carved to feature the head of a penis.

A second building featured several reproductions of old Japanese prints of people doing the deed, porcelain sculptures of couple having sex and my favorite, a viewing room with a widescreen TV showing various animals having sex. All of the chairs were taken up by young Korean couples watching the scenes intently.
A small door with a plexiglass window housed a mannequin and sported a lever that just begged to be pulled. Doing so caused the mannequin’s penis to pop up and spray a huge torrent of water at the window, illiciting surprised squeals from more than a few of the customers. Klassy.
Eventually we were funneled into the gift shop where we could buy all sorts of lube, sex toys and gag gifts. After walking down a path that showcased the Sounds of Sex”, recordings of people from different countries making love, we ended up at the snack bar which proved to be the oddest experience of all.
Young couples sat at small tables sucking on popsicles, watching recycled Skinimax sex scenes on two large TVs while a sober voice described what was going on in the scene. The chairs were rough-hewn affairs with a giant erect phallus serving as the backrest and weren’t very comfortable. Maybe it’s just me, but I just can’t seem to relax with a huge penis between my shoulder blades. I’m weird like that.

This is WAY cooler than the one I paid to see in Amsterdam a long time ago. And by cool I mean surreal, weird, and colorful.
You know how to come through with great posts Wes :)
If it’s weird, I’ll find it. No idea how it happens…
This is hysterical! Thanks for sharing this Wes – I think it’s great!
the only lewd thing i see is the dog in a doggy style position with a man. what’s up with that? haha. really cool though!!
This reminds me of the Museum of Sex in NYC, except way more colorful and off the wall! Great pics.
After a year in Korea, I thought I had seen it all….
Um, apparently I missed this MUST-SEE attraction.
Thanks for putting this on my radar for year two!
Enjoy!
But what shape were the popsicles? Surely not regular, boring popsicle shape!
they were the Korean style pops, where they’re wrapped in plastic and you have to squeeze the good stuff out. Odd moment…
Yeah, have heard about it and now after reading your description, it’s in my list of Must-see in Korea. :)
Thanks for sharing such details.
Whaaaaaaat?! I was in Gyeongju fairly often when I lived in Korea and I’m pretty sure I never even heard of this museum! Love the descriptions! Although I’m not sure it’s really my thing, it sounds like there are more than a few couples intent on learning everything they can from it!
It may have been a bit out of town. I was just along for the ride — my sister-in-law was playing tour guide. Definitely worth seeking out…
Far out! I did not just see a claymation gang bang did I? This is much more, er, colourful than the Paris sex museum =)
I’ve lived in Korea for 3 years & I haven’t even heard of this place! Leave it to JV, to unearth such a gem. A nice array of photos but the one I can’t stop thinking about is the clay gang bang orgy – dog included!
Ya gotta check it out — it’ll stun you to silence…
Holy sh*t…I’m speechless! I would have needed a stiff (no pun intended) cocktail (again no pun intended) after this experience.
Haha, the unicorns made me laugh loudly. I think the girl covering her eyes in the penis garden is supposed to have someone yell “surprise” as she unclamps her eyes & gets to pick one or all (athletic gal).
And why do they have deface Wonder Woman? Sure, her costume screams dominatrix, but her spirit is anything but. More like compassion and love for all mankind. Er, is that a polite way to say “dominatrix’?
And the Wonder Woman statue was one of the tamer things in the place :/
Wild/hilarious post! I love the “sober voice” describing what was going on in that scene and, of course, your final sentence–hilarious!
I, uh…….I think I need a cigarette.
Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em.
This is so fantastic. I totally would have visited it as well.
thank you so very much for breaking up the monotony of my day. this was such a great post hahaha. sex is such a fun topic
Way better than the Amsterdam sex museum.
I love it! I was there a few years back and have been telling everyone since then. Unfortunately, that was one goddamn trip I forgot to take my camera for… So I’ll be sharing your link with a few incredulous friends.
Finally! Someone else who has been there. I was starting to think I’d hallucinated the whole experience :)
Amsterdam red district experience , and Miami sex museum cannot be compared with what you describe here, LOL!
this is awesome..
I picked up a map in Gyeongju that turned out to be an ad for this place, but I didn’t manage to make it there (it is quite a bit out of town). However I can say that in that unicorn picture the first line says “birthday cake.” I can’t read the rest… and can’t imagine what it could say. There’s a similar attraction on Jeju Island which I’ll be visiting this weekend and will definitely write about!
